One day while talking with Dan, we got the cool idea of getting the old gang back together for a reunion of sorts. Dan was visiting his mother in Greensboro and we joked about how fun it would be to return to G'boro where we all became friends. Well the joke became a reality the week of Nov. 8th - 12th when Matt Crossley, Dan Kelly, Mike Morley and myself returned to Greensboro to relive past glory.
My trip kicked off by flying into Raleigh the first night. I spent the time hanging with good friend Robin Wagner and visiting with fraternity brothers Ryan Verdery and Gus Gray. The next day Matt and Dan made their way down from DC and picked me up. From there we were off to the Gate City! A trip to Greensboro wouldn't be complete without a visit to several historic venues. As you'll see, we made sure to hit 'em all and stayed at the very nice Biltmore Hotel in downtown to make it easy.
We spent every morning enjoying coffee at The Green Bean. We drove by all our old apartments and townhouses only to find they'd gone ghetto. We ate dinner at some old and new restaurants and realized the food wasn't that extraordinary. We even had lunch with Mamma Kelly, Dan's mom. Oh, and of course we spent every evening checking out some of the old and new nightlife hotspots. And using the word "hotspot" would be giving them a bit too much credit. I'll leave you with this thought. Imagine walking into what locals call "a club" and finding music from 1990, a guy wearing a shinny shimmering club-shirt from 1992, another guy dressed in really baggy pleated pants and sporting a spiked mohawk/mullet. Need I say more?
Be sure to check out Dan's images from the trip as well.
