Nocturnal Vibe by Doug Van Sant

Real World Of Breaks
Hold everything! Just when you started to wonder what happened to this nocturnal supreme column, I'm back. Back from a small little trip to Ohio and then to San Francisco for my wedding and honeymoon. Yes kids, I've taken that proverbial plunge into married life and I couldn't be happier. My beautiful wife Kelly and I spent a week in the snow of Columbus and then hit the streets in the City by the Bay to shop, eat, shop some more, and drink wine. It was a very nice break, but I'm back just in time to bring you word on some of the hottest spring break and music conference parties of the year.

Now for those of us who have decided to just live in paradise rather than visit every year when the cold nips our bones, we have a full slate of enjoyment on tap. Saturday is kickin with a Real World hottie hosting a break-beat party beyond belief, as well as a house DJ named Halo. Late night kicks strong at Floyd's and the spring break party list grows longer each day. Folks, you don't have to go home at last call, you only have to find the next party.

So we kick off our return to the red carpet of Tampa nightlife with a visit to a blazing little party on Saturday, March 19th at The Amphitheater hosted by Real World San Diego's Jamie Chung. For those who can't get enough of the drama crazed original reality show, you'll know exactly who she is. The Korean beauty spent the six months of chaos along side the likes of frat guy Brad, smooth talker Jacquese, impressionable Cameran and Tampa's own Robin. Jamie recently appeared as one of reality TVs hottest ladies in Stuff magazine and is now hanging with Amp manager Jimmie Brothers and owner John Santoro. If you hit the fashion plate hard enough and look good, you might get to meet her as well.

Now, I know celeb parties are always a fun way to pass time in SoBe. Lord knows Paris Hilton seems to have a bar or club buying her naming rights every time her dog barks. But here in Tampa, we like to throw music into the mix as well. A mix that includes the hard and heavy breaks/trance of DJ Sharaz. Originally a trained classical percussionist, Sharaz found himself as a DJ merely by accident. Looking for an interesting hobby to keep him busy, he took up the career of producing in 1997. Years later he's found himself traveling nearly 12,000 miles a month as a professional breaks producer and DJ. Peppering his appearances with live percussion is something that makes Sharaz unique amongst his bass-heavy peers. Saturday you'll hear Sharaz funk it up on stage while Jamie swills cocktails with local socialities in VIP. So now that you're interested, be sure to check out my exclusive Amphitheater review from Clubland, or visit them online at Amphitheaterybor.com.

Under A Halo In Hyde Park
Another dope little hotspot on Saturday night will be found along Platt Street in the chic neighborhoods of SoHo. The crew of Paradise is turning things up again at the Hyde Park Cafe with a visit from the incredible house music DJ Halo. You know the deal; Joshua Wilkins and JASK continue one of the longest running residencies in the Bay Area. The two continue to bring in only the top names in the house music business. And after spending a week in the house music mecca of San Fran, I can tell you; these guys are very well known. A little visit to a Looq party at Minna Gallery in SoMa was greeted with many locals very well versed with Paradise parties. Not too shabby!

So when you step inside the funky, soul-flavored house built by Brian Varga (aka Halo) on Saturday night, get ready to be moved. This Chicago bred, House-fed DJ has been wreckin decks everywhere from Japan to Korea, Brazil, Australia, Israel, Africa, Turkey, and back to North America, currently capturing the scene in Southern Cal. He's been groovin London's Fabric now for four years as a bi-monthly resident, and he's no stranger to gracing stages with the most infamous faces in electronic culture. Now, with a successful solo production career, a new album and a national tour, Halo's house has the whole block rockin. For more info call 813-254-CAFE or visit Thehydeparkcafe.com.
